The death of Pope John Paul II in his hometown

I have spent three days in the hometown of Pope John Paul II- Wadowice, Poland,  during the time when he was dying. Large crowds of people have gathered on the town’s main square and in the church where JPII was baptized, waiting for the final, bad news to arrive.

Wadowice is a small town in southern Poland located in the foots of Beskid Maly mountains. Pope John Paul II, known here as Karol Voytyla is the most famous and respected hero. Almost Everyone in Wadowice claims to have some kind of ties to JPII or his family (uncle, best friend of grandma etc…) These days were incredibly tense here. JPII died on 2nd of April 2005.
