I was lucky to spend some time in September in Romania. Romania is in my opinion an amazing country with great nature and lots of contrasts. With beautiful Danube Delta, ugly Black Sea coastal resorts and not so scary Dracula Castle which in fact wasn't even visited by him.
Crisan, people waiting for a ferry from Tulcea. The only way to get to the delta is by ferry, there are no roads and almost no cars.

The beautiful Transfagarasan road. It was built by romanian dictator Ceausescu, because of military reasons he wanted to have quick access across Fagaras mountains.

The amount of rubbish everywhere is really depressing. People just seem not to care.

At first, when I shot this image I regretted that I wasn't outside my car in order to have a neat composition. Later I realized that this is a perfect image. Sheeps on the road and horse carts are the favourites stereotype images of Romania (and other eastern european countries) seen by a westerners eye. That's why I liked to have this western tourists/journalist perspective in the photograph.

Old Dacia is also a trademark of communist Romania. This image was shot in Danube Delta, Crisan a village with no roads,village surrended by water.
The car is completely useless here, hence the lack of wheels. Yet someone decided to bring it and keep it here. Absurd...

In an isolated Crisan village, life came to a standstill. The only moderately busy places are local shop which also serves as a pub and post-office where the less fortunate ones can receive their social benefits.
However this is not the full picture. Fortunately the tourism is booming and a lot of inhabitants can make money from that.

No matter where you eat, the food is just great. Especially vegetables.

In April I shot some PR stills for a british company specializing in producing online viral advertisments. The movie is finally online. It was made for powerade ion4 and it shows a great polish athlete Marcin Lewandowski (champion of Europe in the race for 800 meters, World Cup finalist and participant of Olympic Games) during his daily training in Szczecin, Poland.
The video was shot entirely with 5d MKII and 7d SLRs. The result in my opinion is absolutely great.

Wyclef Jean shot in hand in Port Au Prince, Haiti

Yesterday I read that Haiti-born american musician and record producer ,former member of the hip hop group the Fugees Wyclef Jean was shot in hand in Haiti capital Port Au Prince.

Fortunately the injury was not serious the wound was superficial, you can read about it here .

I had a oportunity to photograph Wyclef Jean in Port Au Prince this January on the anniversary of 2010 earthquake.

I was in front of the ruins of Notre Dame Cathedral, Port Au Prince. When some SUV escorted by Police and bodyguards arrived. I didn't really know what is going on, but as I felt tension in crowd rises I started shooting chaotic snapshots.

Then Wyclef Jean came out from nowhere.

In this kind of typical Haitian chaos it is clear that something may go wrong.

And after his speach someone tried to steal my wallet, I managed to caught him by his hand :-))

but this is another story...

Haiti , one year after the earthquake

One year after January 12 2010 earthquake the scars are omnipresent. However the improvements are obvious. Most people who lost their houses still live in tent camps, hundreds of international NGO are working hard to build new houses for the people in need. The life came back to the streets of Port Au Prince, Leogane, Cabaret for good.

Bajram Curri in Northern Albanian Alps:
After 1997 the area was wild, wild and lawless . During those times the town lived mostly from smuggling stolen (from Albanian army) weapons for UCK (Kosovo Liberation Army)

Cosplay is an abbreviation of „costume play”. Cosplay fans dress up as specific characters. The characters are typically drawn from japanese fiction books and movies: manga, anime etc. For a real Cosplayer it is dishonour to buy a costume, they spend hundrets of euros and countless hours to create these costumes. The most important thing is to accurately represent the character – it means not only dressing up but also behaving and acting like one.

It is shocking what happened yesterday during Love Parade in Duisburg. Young people came to well known peaceful event to dance and have some fun... :-(((
I was at Love Parade twice. In Essen and in Dortmund. There were huge crowds (about 1,5 mln people) and I can't really imagine how someone in Duisburg could came up with an idea of openning just one entrance. It was disaster waiting to happen. The people who were responsible for security organization in Duisburg should end up in jail.
The following images are from the last Love Parade that took place in 2008 Dortmund. In 2009 Love Parade was cancelled due to lack of money for proper security...

These images were shot in a very similar tunel to the one where the disaster happened.

Shooting this was more like collecting f#####g stamps than photographing...
This tower is the most recognized piece of architecture in Dussedlorf. I really can't understand why all the photos/postcards/calendars/books/souvenirs sold in the D-city, show only one and always the same view- the tower from the river side.

I didn't have any paid assignment to shoot this so instead of taking my digital camera I took 50$ plastic HOLGA, to make at least something different, than the usual press stuff. She is always chased by hordes of photogs, so in my opinion there was no reason to shoot another 5 gigabytes of Angie buying socks :-)
The rally took place in the middle of the week around noon, so all regular folks were at work. The only ones that showed up were a bit odd...

Andrzej Lepper is (unfortunately) well known polish populist politician. He represents to me everything that is, or can be the worst in politics. At the highpoint of his career he was Deputy Prime Minister. During his “career” he has been charged with many offences, but somehow he always could getaway with them.

Finally in 2007 his life as a politician came to an end – he was involved in several serious scandals (sex, bribes & corruption)

In 2004 I followed him during his pre-elections tour, on assignment for a polish daily newspaper. Back then I found him and his electorate very funny… but later in 2005 , when his Self-defence party became 3^rd party in the Sejm (polish parliament) , I was frightened.

Now I am happy to believe that his days of glory are over- So ladies and gentlemen! I hope it is your last chance to meet Andrzej Lepper.
